The Blackbirds’ most recent album, ‘Sad Songs’, is an ambitious new effort from the group that sends them further into the realm of cosmic American music. It is a new representation of the groups collaborative song crafting skills that embraces their influences, both new and old.
Sad Songs is the 3rd full length record coming from The Blackbirds and has been 2 years in the making, following the release of their second album, Cosmic Americans, released in 2019. For this new endeavor, the band reunited with Cosmic Americans producer and engineer Neil Tuuri at Amish Electric Chair Studios for several weeks of recording and months of post-production engineering.
Backed by drummer Jesse Forrest, bassist Bobby Wheeler, and guitarists Chuck McPeek & Dustin Nash, Jake and the boys have released 3 EPs and 3 full-length records since the formation of The Blackbirds in 2016. The band is once again playing shows all over middle America and is expecting to release even more new music sometime in 2024.

"“Cosmic Americans” is a full-throttle Jake Dunn and the Blackbirds album. The boys have found their collective sound as a five-piece, and they’re leaning in hard on their talents. Soaring harmonies, screaming guitar duels, and hooks you’ll be singing days later. The best band in the MOV just released their best album yet. Don’t miss it."
-COREY SHIELDS (HOLD THE NOTE)
"Many of the tracks are slow rollers which build around great songwriting and excellent musicianship, all using different lenses to focus on characters that you'd see on the streets of any small town in working-class America"
-Chad Cochran (Hold The Note)
"Jake Dunn and his boys are crafting music that lies largely at the very American intersection of country music and psychedelic rock."
